Júlia Rios

Screenwriter, director, and assistant director, with a degree in in Audiovisual Studies from the University of Brasília (UnB) and co-founder of the film production company Respiro Filmes. She is currently developing the screenplay for the feature film 50, funded by the Culture Support Fund of the Federal District (FAC/DF), and preparing to direct her original short film Carinos, selected by the Paulo Gustavo Law. She is a screenwriter, researcher, and host of the Respiro Filmes Podcast, executive director of the Respiro Filmes Creative Lab, and researcher in directing actors and working with cast members within the Respiro Filmes Cinematic Research Collection.

 

She wrote the screenplays for the short films In The Dark (No Escuro) and The Adventures of Zuca A.K.N. (As Aventuras de Zuca A.K.N.). She was awarded as an assistant director by the Paulo Gustavo Law, in recognition of her significant artistic contribution to the audiovisual field in the Federal District. She works on nationally and internationally acclaimed projects: she was 1st assistant director of the short film The Beads (2023), winner at Filmfest Dresden, Ibiza Cine Fest, and Panorama Internacional Coisa de Cinema; and 2nd assistant director of the feature film The Nature of Invisible Things (2024), awarded by the children's jury at the 43rd International Film Festival of Uruguay. Both films had their international premieres at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale).

 

In 2021, she published the article “The Woman as Erotic Pleasure in The Postman Always Rings Twice” in the Brazilian Journal of Scientific Initiation in Media Studies (Revista Brasileira de Iniciação Científica em Comunicação Social), focusing on gender studies in audiovisual narratives.
